What is this useful for?
Whey is mainly a convenient way to reach your daily protein intake — it has no magic effect beyond other high-quality protein sources. If you get enough protein from regular food you do not need it, but in practice that is often a challenge; a guideline for building and keeping muscle is about 1.6 grams of protein per kilo of body weight per day. With lactose intolerance, concentrate can cause complaints and isolate is often the better choice; whey is not suitable with a cow's milk protein allergy. In healthy people a high protein intake has not been shown to harm the kidneys; with existing chronic kidney disease, individual protein advice from a doctor or dietitian is needed. Approved sweeteners in the amounts used in whey are not a medical problem — which sweetener you want is a personal choice, not a quality difference. (Review: Android Health Clinic.)
