Creatine is one of the best-supported sports supplements: the strongest evidence is for strength training and repeated short, intense efforts, with a modest but reproducible extra improvement in strength, training capacity and lean mass. There is added value for vegetarians and vegans (lower creatine stores on average) and for older adults in combination with strength training. Dosing is simple: 3 to 5 grams of monohydrate a day, safe in the long term for healthy people; a loading phase is not needed. Creatine does not need to be cycled: after saturation, a daily maintenance dose keeps the raised creatine stores in the muscles topped up. Good to know: serum creatinine can rise during use without kidney function actually getting worse; with existing kidney disease, discuss use with your doctor. (Review: Android Health Clinic.)
